When I was ten months old,my "mother" decided she was more interested in booze and dudes than bottles and babies. It used to bother me, but now I realize that she couldn't have possibly known what she was walking away from. I mean come on! I am totally full of the awesome.
I remember in school making mother's day cards and thinking that I shouldn't have to do it. Talk about rubbing salt in a wound.
Each year I would draw crazy looking flowers and sloppily scribble
Happy Mother's Day DAD!
He absolutely deserved those cards and more.
He was the one who got blamed for me stinking up grocery store aisles with my farts when I was still a wee baby.
He is the one who took me out to eat on my third birthday and had to rush across the restaurant to the bathroom after I came out holding my dress up yelling Daddy come wipe me! Apparently I have always been full of class.
He is the one who answered question after question during movies. Yes dad, I really did need to know where that guy got his shirt from in that one movie. How did you know he got it from Wal-Mart?
He is the one who made sure I had every Barbie and Barbie accessory possible. He also made sure I wore a dress every day until I was about seven.
He is the one who took me fishing and waited until I took a nap to throw the fish away and put fish sticks in a ziploc bag and told me he made them out of the fish I had caught. Yes. I fell for it. I said I was awesome, not bright.
Thanks Big John for showing me what a parent is supposed to do. I know it wasn't always easy for you, but I personally think you did a pretty great job.
Happy Mother's Day to anyone who didn't get going when the going got tough.
